Kozhikode: The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation’s third council meeting will be held on Monday. The meeting will elect members to the various standing committees of the Corporation.
The election to the standing committee chairmanships will be held on Wednesday or Thursday. Out of the eight standing committees, the Finance committee will have 10 members whereas other committees will have nine members each.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Corporation Secretary T.P Satheesan said that election procedures would start from the morning.
“Till 11 am, nominations to the members of the standing committees will be accepted. The election process will start after that,” he said. The election will take place through the system of proportional representation by single transferable vote. The ADM will be the returning officer of the election”.
However this time, the opposition may not get standing committee chairman posts. Last year they had education Standing committee which was headed by Ushadevi Teacher.
This time the LDF has already declared their candidates for the heads of various standing committees as they have a majority.
Athanikkal councillor K.V Baburaj will be the Health standing committee chairman. Other standing committee heads are as follows; P.C Rajan (Development), Anitha Rajan (Welfare); Asha Sasankan (Tax and Appeals); Radhakrishnan Master (Education and Sports);M.C. Anil Kumar (Town Planning); T.V Lalitha Prabha (Public Works).
