Sri Lanka navy arrests nine more TN fishermen
RAMESWARAM: As many as nine more fishermen from Rameswaram have been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy near Neduntheevu in the Palk Bay for allegedly straying into their waters on Saturday, reports reaching here on Sunday said, taking the total arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen in the last ten days.
The fishermen in two boats, who put out to sea for fishing along with a larger group of 661 trawlers on Saturday, were reportedly chased and then apprehended. All the nine fishermen have been taken to Kankesanthurai naval camp and are being questioned there. In another incident, a boat belonging to Kency of Rameswaram sunk after it had dashed against a rock near Katchatheevu, following a mechanical snag. Four fishermen on that boat – Sudalaimani, Anthony, Ramachandran, and Muniyasamy have safely reached the Katchatheevu shores and are waiting for a rescue boat the bring them back to Rameswaram, reports added. Both these incidents have shocked Rameswaram fishermen.
