Prisoner in Kadapa jail appeals for mercy killing

Srikanth was serving imprisonment since 14 years

Anantapur: K. Srikanth, 38, of Nimmur in Gudur mandal of Nellore district, who was serving life term at the Central Prison in Kadapa, sought mercy killing permission after his name was not added in the list of prisoners to get released from the state.

Srikanth was sentenced to life-term in connection with a murder case in 1996 under Gudur police station limits of Nellore district. Srikanth was serving imprisonment since 14 years at the Central Prison of Kadapa including remand period.

The state government had recently issued a GO pertaining to release of prisoners based on the nature of crime involved. However, Srikanth was found unsuitable for release and his name was not included in the list.

The prisoner, who had served more than 14 years including remand period in the prison sent representations to the President of India Pranab Mukherjee, State Governor E.S.L. Narasimh-an, Chief Minister N. Cha-ndrababu Naidu and other officials asking for release, or permit for mercy killing.

“I have already completed spending of 14 years of my life in the prison. If I am not released, I seek permission for mercy killing,” the prisoner said.
