Uttar Pradesh: Suspected ISI agent remanded in 14 day's judicial custody

Documents related to Indian Army, Pakistani id-proof, fake voter id card etc were procured from them

Meerut: Suspected ISI agent Mohammand Eizaz, who was arrested on Friday, has been remanded in 14 days' judicial custody by a court. The court of Special Chief Judicial Magistrate Sanjay Singh on Saturday passed the order placing Eizaz in judicial custody for 14 days, ATS Circle Officer Ankit Kumar said here today. Following a medical examination of the alleged spy, UP Special Task Force (STF) and local police presented him in court amidst tight security, Kumar said.

Meanwhile, the local Sadar police has sought a seven-day remand of Eizaz for interrogation for which a hearing would be held in the court on Monday, he added. Eizaz has been booked under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act, IPC and the Official Secrets Act, he said. Earlier, during interrogation, Eizaz said that four persons from Kolkata -- Mohammad Irshad, his two brothers Irfan and Jehangir, and son Ashfaque Ansari -- had provided him with shelter and support, Kumar said.

All the four persons have been booked in this connection, the CO said, adding that efforts are on to arrest them. Eizaz, alias Mohammad Kalam, a resident of Taramadi Chowk, Irfanabad, Islamabad, Pakistan, was arrested on Friday by an STF team from the Meerut Cantt area when he was on his way to Delhi.

Documents related to Indian Army, Pakistani identity proof, fake voter identity of West Bengal, fake Aadhaar card with a Bareilly district address, Delhi Metro card, laptop, and pen drives were recovered from his possession.

The suspected agent had revealed that in 2012, he came in contact with ISI, which trained him to work in India. He was allegedly tasked with sending information about Indian army from western UP and Uttarakhand.
