Boon for hoopsters as NBA hunts for talent
Hyderabad: Budding basketballers have an opportunity to put their hands up for selection as the Hyderabad leg of ACG-NBA Jump, a national level talent search program will be held at the Gachibowli Stadium in the city on Saturday.
The program is an initiative of National Basketball Association (NBA) and ACG Worldwide Group, to discover and develop the skills of basketball players from India. ACG-NBA Jump is designed as a three-phase search program. In the first phase, one-day regional elite camps will be held across six cities — Delhi, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. The second phase will consist of a national elite training camp where 32 players selected from the six regional camps will assemble for a four-day training period. In the third and final phase, one top player from the national elite training camp will be selected to attend the NBA D-League National tryout in the United States for the opportunity to earn a spot in the NBA D-League roster.
“The goal is to identify and hone huge untapped talent pool of basketball in India. We strongly believe that our partnership with NBA to tap this potential can create a solid platform for the aspirants who do not have access to such platforms,” said ACG Director Karan Singh. The first program was flagged of by Satnam Singh, the first Indian-born player to be drafted into NBA on October 26 in Delhi.
