TRS district chief ahead in MLC race
Warangal: MLC elections from the local authorities constituency will be held on December 27 for which the notification will be released on December 2, district collector Vakati Karuna said. The model code of conduct will be applicable in the district like normal elections.
A total of 860 voters from different local bodies in the district are going to cast their votes in the elections. 50 ZPTCs, 687 MPTCs, 116 councillors and seven ex-officio members are going to be the electors in which women account for 499 voters.
Party-wise, there are 24 Congress, 18 TRS, 6 TD, 1 BJP and 1 independent ZPTCs. Though the ruling TRS could not bag more ZPTCs than the Congress, it managed to secure the Zilla Parishad chairperson’s post. The party’s strength is that they have more public representatives than the opposition parties.
With a win almost certain for this lone MLC seat in the district, TRS party leaders are setting themselves up for the election. It will be interesting to see whom the party high command will choose to contest the election.
TRS district president, Takkallapalli Ravinder Rao is said to be in the forefront, after he earned a good name following the party’s successful run in the previous and recent elections. Former MLC, Konda Muralidhar Rao, who previously won the seat from the Congress, joined the TRS along with wife Konda Surekha who won as MLA. As Surekha was not included in the Cabinet, the Konda couple are expecting this ticket. Other party leaders Nagurla Venkateswarlu and party senior leader K. Rajaiah Yadav are said to be in the list of people expecting the ticket to contest the election. Ms Vakati Karuna said the last date for filing nominations is December 9 and the scrutiny of nominations would take place on December 10.
