‘Satisfied’ Central team to submit report in a week

Chennai: The state government’s relief measures are satisfactory and the report on Tamil Nadu will be submitted to the Centre in a week,” T.V.S.N Prasad, joint secretary, Union home ministry, who headed the nine-member team that is now assessing the rain-related damages, told reporters on Friday.
The team discussed the relief works executed with the Cuddalore district collector S. Suresh Kumar. The collector briefed the team through a detailed power point presentation.
The team visited Periya Kattupalayam one of the worst affected areas in the district. Prasad also interacted with Visur and Periyakattupalayam villagers. In most of the areas, the victims poured out their grievances and there was also tension is some areas when villagers found it difficult to interact with the central officials. Several who lost their kith and kin broke down during the interaction.
K.Venkatesan, District Farmers Association president, submitted a petition demanding Rs 25,000 per acre crop loss and waiver of bank loans. Rural development secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi, who accompanied the team to the inundated villages briefed the officials on the damage to roads, lakes, electricity transformers and livestock. The team members fanned out in three groups and also visited relief camps at Panruti and Poothampadi. The team had so far visited Chennai and Kancheepuram districts and is to visit other parts of the state on Saturday.
