Woman confides of her gangrape to husband, gets divorced over text message

Mumbai: In a shameful incident, a woman who was gangraped was divorced over a text message by her husband after she confided the news to him.

According to a report in Daily Mail, the 25-year-old was divorced by her husband, who works as a construction worker in Dubai, over a text message with the triple talaq.

Describing how she went numb, the woman said, "This is the last thing I expect out of my husband of 5 years after I confided in him about what happened. I felt violated. I thought he would stand by side through this, to help me through the pain of it. But I was wrong. He took the easiest way out like a coward and divorced me with a text message."

Expressing disbelief over how her husband ended a five-year-long relation in just five seconds, the woman said that she could have survived all this, but for that they even took away their son.

The child is now in the custody of the 70-year-old mother-in-law.

She also added that her mother-in-law was initially very supportive of her and took her to the police station to file a complaint but suddenly backtracked on her stance and turned her out of the house, supporting her son's decision.

The young lady has moved back to her parent’s house in Meerut, UP.

Various women's rights organisations and Muslim religious groups have called for doing away with the practice of triple talaq.
