CM Oommen Chandy visits family of Methakudy Noushad
CM assured financial help for the loss of their husband/son
KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy visited the house of Methakudy Noushad, the 32- year-old auto driver from Malikadavu near here, who died after inhaling poisonous gas inside a manhole while trying to save two labourers from the pit. Consoling the family members of Noushad, who was the sole breadwinner of the family, CM assured financial help for the loss of their husband/son.
After talking to the family of Noushad, the CM told media persons that it was the Government’s responsibility to provide financial assistance to the family and a Government job would be assured to Noushad’s wife considering her educational qualification. “We salute the braveheart of Noushad, who sacrificed his own life to save the life of others”, the CM said.
Despite the warning from people gathered around the spot, Noushad went into the manhole, towards certain death, to save the life of people who were struggling inside the manhole. The labourers died too.
The CM admitted that it was a message and the Government would make sure that all precautionary measures would be taken and followed by labourers while cleaning, in order to avoid similar grave accidents in future.
The CM added that more precautionary measures would be taken after getting the detailed report of the accident from the Kozhikode District Collector.
A pall of gloom descended on Malikadavu here, as thousands came to pay a tearful adieu to Noushad, who was a very familiar figure to the people.
He listened to his conscience rather than thinking about his own safety, when he rushed to save the life of the two. He went into the manhole and got into the drain to rescue the labourers not thinking about the lack of air inside the clogged drain which carries water upto a man’s height.
He was in the Gulf as a taxi driver and it was only a year back that he returned to Kozhikode and became an auto driver. Noushad who lost his father at the age of 15, is survived by wife Safreena and mother Asma Beevi.
