BJP activists ‘threaten’ Anwar Ali

Poet warned against appearing as witnesses in case related to screening of Kashmiri film
Thrissur: A group of cultural activists, including noted poet Anwar Ali, have been threatened by BJP activists for appearing as witnesses in a case connected with the attempt to disrupt the screening of ‘Ocean of Tears’, a Kashmiri film in the Vibgyor International Film Festival in Thrissur last year.
BJP activists including district-level leader Advocate B. Gopalakrishnan are the accused in the case filed by Vibgyor activists.
Ali, Sarath Cheloor, the then secretary of Vibgyor Collective and Ratheesh were threatened when they came out after appearing as witnesses in the Thrissur Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
According to Sarath, BJP leaders Advocate B. Gopalakrishnan and Advocate Ravikumar Uppath were involved in threatening. “‘You will face the consequences and you will regret the decision’, the duo told us as we came out after deposing in the court,” Sarath told reporters in Thrissur.
Sarath and Anwar Ali have filed a complaint before the police following the threat. The BJP activists tried to disrupt the screening of the film on the ground that it was an anti-India film funded by Pakistan, unaware of the fact that it was produced by Public Broadcasting Corporation under the control of the Union government.
