Best state award to Tamil Nadu in cadaver organ donation

Nadda congratulated Tamil Nadu government for its endeavour in organ donation
Chennai: Tamil Nadu has bagged the best state award in the area of cadaver organ donation. Union health and family welfare minister J. P. Nadda gave away the award to TN health and family welfare minister C. Vijaya Baskar during the 6th Indian Organ Donation Day function in New Delhi.
Nadda congratulated Tamil Nadu government for its endeavour in organ donation. Vijaya Baskar said the state government had taken decisive steps to promote organ donation and transplantation, created patient-centric healthcare and green corridors to facilitate organ transfer and donation for the needy. The state government has doubled its health budget for 2015-16. “During 2010-11, an amount of '4,395 was allocated for health and family welfare, whereas Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa increased the allocation to '8,245 crore in 2015-16,” he said, adding that new medical and dental colleges had been started taking the total MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu from 1,945 to 2,655.
Tamil Nadu led the country in creating and implementing health-related schemes, the minister said. Several states had shown interest to replicate projects implemented by Tamil Nadu. Officials from various states, including Tamil Nadu health secretary J. Radhakrishnan took part in the function.
