AP Housing Board told not to hike prices of flats
Hyderabad: The AP Housing Board has been informed that it cannot revise the prices of its flats and ask for ad-ditional payments from customers arbitrarily.
Possible future hikes should have been communicated to buyers beforehand either in the allotment letter or the offer letter, stated the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
To this effect, the commission upheld the AP State Commission’s verdict, which ordered the Board to register the flats in the name of the complainants. It asked the Board to reimburse the additional money it got.
Mr Vempa Ramesh Kumar and Mr M.B. Vasu purchased APHB flats in Vijayawada. They were supposed to pay around Rs 94,000 each for their flats and had got Hudco loans of Rs 49,500. The remaining amount was to be paid in monthly installments of Rs 2,241 for 12 years.
However, the Board increased the price to Rs 1,11,865 for Mr Ramesh Kumar and Rs 1,14,235 for Vasu. It then asked for higher interest rates – 14 per cent on Hudco loan and 19.5 per cent on the due amount – from the buyers. Meanwhile the Board stopped the registration of the flats’ as the buyers had failed to make full payment in time (due to the dispute).
