Woman thief arrested, Rs 6 lakh worth gold seized
Warangal: A woman who targets lonely women and children and deceptively robs them off was arrested by the Warangal CCS police on Friday. The accused, G. Padma was caught while selling stolen gold ornaments in a gold shop on Friday. Upon interrogation, she confessed to her crimes. 210 tola of gold ornaments worth Rs 6 lakh were seized from her.
The accused would primarily identify houses in which elders leave their kids alone and used to go to that house. She would introduce herself as someone whom the parents knew and would tell the kids that she was sent by their parents to bring some medical prescriptions kept in the almirah. After it is opened she would divert the kids and steal valuables. On November 9, she met a woman who runs a clothes store and told her that she came from Hyderabad and needs to rent a house. In return she offered to give a golden plate, which is actually iron but gold coated, as she does not have any money with her.
Warangal Crimes ACP Eshwar Rao said that Padma was sent to jail earlier for committing similar crimes in Hyderabad. She is a native of Rantepalem village, Sattenapalli mandal in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh. “Her husband and in-laws are all into burglary. So she too started robbing from people after getting married to Pulla Rao,” he said.
Mr Eshwar Rao also said that they are taking all preventive measures to tackle the chain snatching menace in the city and said that they have intensified their vigil and brought the situation under control.
