Amul celebrates Kurien’s birthday in Hyderabad
Around 1,000 students from different schools of Hyderabad visited Amul milk packing station
Hyderabad: Gujarat-based milk and milk product maker Amul has celebrated 94th birthday of Varghese Kurien, the architect of India’s white revolution, on November 26 as the National Milk Day in Hyderabad.
Around 1,000 students from different schools of Hyderabad visited Amul milk packing station at Hayathnagar in Hyderabad. They have seen the manufacturing proc-ess and packing of milk and milk products.
According to an Amul statement, children learnt how the milk products are manufactured and packed in very systematic and hygienic manner without touch of human hand.” After the visit to the Amul plant, students and teachers told that first time they came to know about Kurien and Amul in detail.
The white revolution empowered farmers, particularly women, making India the largest milk producer in the world. “Today, 150 lakh farmers across 1.6 lakh village dairy cooperative societies in India, supplying milk worth Rs 50,000 crore every year,” Amul said.
According to its statement, Amul had launched its milk in Hyderabad in January 2015 and within a month achieved a sale of one lakh litres per day. Currently, Amul is selling around two lakh litres per day milk in Hyderabad. Amul is now the third largest milk brand in the Hyderabad market.
