Supreme Court rejects plea seeking removal of Karnataka Lokayukta
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to hear a plea seeking removal of former Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Justice Bhaskar Rao from the post of Lokayukta.
"The issue has been debated upon in the Karnataka legislative assembly. We are sorry," a bench comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and Amitava Roy said, adding that it was not necessary for it to interfere.
The court was hearing the special leave petition of Anti Corruption Council of India against the judgment of the High Court.
The High Court had in October dismissed the PIL seeking his removal from the post on various grounds including that he allegedly continued to hold the designation of senior advocate despite assuming the office of Lokayukta.
It had said that the Lokayukta did not practice law before the Supreme Court after assuming the office of Lokayukta.
The plea had sought an independent probe into the alleged role of Justice Rao in some corruption cases related to the Lokayukta office.
