Major shakeup likely in District Congress Committees

Review has 6 DCC heads on the line

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After facing major setbacks in the recently concluded local body poll, the state Congress leadership is planning a major organisational revamp in more than six districts.

The KPCC leadership meeting here for district-wise evaluation of the performance of the party in the elections has completed the process of assessment in 13 districts. The evaluation of Thiruvananthapuram district where the party received a severe blow will be taken up on November 30.

During the evaluation, the leadership found that a host of factors were responsible for the defeat of the party.

The major reasons include failure of the district leadership, ineffective local leaders, poor campaign strategy, problems in candidate selection and infighting in many places.

Organisational weakness was identified as the single biggest factor across the state for the debacle.

Congress sources said the districts where the organisational machinery worked effectively, the party could not only retain its seats but also managed to capture wards from the opposition camp.

Since the leadership is being held accountable for the defeat in six to seven districts, the possibility of major changes in top-level functionaries cannot be ruled out.

The KPCC leadership wants to bring leaders at the district level who can galvanise the cadre, strengthen organisational machinery and raise chances of electoral victory.

The idea is to revamp the organisational setup much ahead of the Assembly elections in 2016 so that the party goes to the polls with a well-set, new team at the district and state level.
