Karnataka State Bar Council plans stir over Upalokayukta Subhash Adi ouster move
Belagavi: In protest against attempts being made to remove Upalokayukta Subhash Adi, the State Bar council will hold a crucial meeting of its office-bearers in Bengaluru on November 29 and launch a state-wide agitation. According to President of the council, A.R. Patil, they will launch an agitation if the government continues with its attempts to remove Mr Adi from his post.
At a press conference in Belagavi, Mr Patil called the government's attempt to remove Justice Adi, as politically-motivated stating that he had never committed any mistakes during his services as lawyer and a judge nor did anybody point fingers at his work. Any decision to remove such persons from the coveted post without any allegations being made against them was an attempt to destabilise the system, he added.
At its meeting in Bengaluru, the council would take a decision on making lawyers stay away from court proceedings and other activities to be launched as part of the upcoming protests, he said. The council would bring its decision to the notice of High Court, Supreme Court, Chief Minister and Prime Minister as well.
Senior counsels in HC back Upalokayukta
Even as support for Upalokayukta Subash B Adi grows, more than a dozen senior counsels of the High Court on Thursday have written to Legislators, pressing to desist from initiating any proceedings or passing any resolution fro the removal of Justice Adi as the Upalokayukta.
According to the letter signed by at least 13 of them, the counsels have expressed that the proceedings initiated against Justice Adi was unfortunate. “This case cannot be compared to that of Lokayukta Justice Bhaskar Rao as criminal proceedings have been initiated against his son. Initiating any resolution for removal of Upalokayukta would cause irreparable damage to the institutions of Lokayukta,” the letter stated.
KRV attacks Congress
The Congress legislators’ move to initiate the process of removal of Upaloka yukta Justice Subhash B. Adi has been criticised by Jayaprakash Narayan Vichara Vedike and Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV).
