Fever cases up with change of season
KOCHI: With the change in season, the number of fever cases is on the increase, especially in eastern parts of Ernakulam. However, fever cases are reported more from the eastern parts of the district which are highly vulnerable to vector-borne diseases.
According to health department authorities, as viral fever was seasonal, it could not be prevented, but could be effectively controlled. Apart from fever, diarrhoea cases have been reported from Fort Kochi and Mattancherry.
On Thursday, 719 fever cases were reported in the district of which 52 patients were admitted in various hospitals. A case of dengue fever was reported from Udayamperoor while two suspected cases were reported from Mulvukadu and Maradu, Two malaria cases from Malipuram and Pallipuram and one suspected case of leptospirosis was also reported from Alangad.
So far in November, as many as 16,602 fever cases have been reported from the district including five de-ngue fever and eight lepto-spirosis cases. One case ea-ch of hepatitis A and B was also reported this month.
District medical officer Dr. N.K Kuttappan told DC that the situation was under control and there was no outbreak of fever in any part of the district. “Viral fever is seasonal and cannot be prevented. Instructions have been given to give special attention to west Kochi areas which are highly vulnerable to diarrhoea,” he said.
