GHMC Poll: Civic works faster in ‘Opposition’ areas

Schemes being announced without identifying lands

Hyderabad: Eyeing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, all the civic works that have been announced, sanctioned and executed are mostly in constituencies won by the Opposition parties.

The TRS has two seats — Malkajgiri and Secunderabad Assembly constituencies. Khairatabad has got the biggest boost of Rs 70 crore, much higher than the MLA funds. Also, roads that were sanctioned in Serilin-gampally are being executed on a war footing.

Quthbullapur Telugu Desam legislator K.P. Vivekanand Goud said, “Over Rs 15 crore was sanctioned for BT roads between Sri Krishnanagar near Suraram and Devendernagar to Khaisarnagar. The residents and I had been submitting requests for these roads since 2014 but they were only sanctioned a month prior to the election. The TRS leaders are pretending as if they have taken up the job. For over 10 days Quthbullapur has not been receiving water because there are no reservoirs. The demand for a reservoir has been there since the government came to power, but it is still under consideration.”

BJP MLA C. Rama Chandra Reddy of Khairatabad said, “They are not maintaining protocol as well; while inauguration or foundation stone laying, the local MLA is ignored. Actually all these works have to be carried from the MLA’s funds. In the last nine months, not a single rupee was given to the MLAs. But more than Rs 70 crore was spent on Khairatabad.”

The Uppal Assembly constituency has received Rs 25 crore for BT roads in Kapra and Uppal and for two community halls.

Uppal BJP MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar said, “I had run around officers for approvals, and now the TRS is taking credit for it. The state is being forced to do these works before the elections to prove itself.”
