Ananthavaram (Guntur): AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that nurseries would be started in all government high schools to promote plantation and announced sanctioning of Rs 350 crore funds for this scheme.
He participated in the state Kartika Vana Mahotsavam on Wednesday at Anantha-varam in the capital region. Mr Naidu planted saplings with schoolchildren and asked the people to plant at least 10 saplings each to complete the target of planting of 50 crore saplings to transform AP into a green state.
Mr. Naidu came one hour late at 12 noon against scheduled 11 am to Anantha-varam. Addressing the public, he said that he will nurture children with utmost care, love and affection to transform them as most successful persons in the society and similarly we should nurture trees which give us source of life ‘oxygen’ and various types of food.
He claimed that he planted saplings 15 years ago in Hyderabad which has now changed the weather. He added that he feels happy whenever he goes to Hyderabad due to green environment. He mentioned that the second less rain registered district in India is Anantapur in AP but recent rains filled the water tanks in that district due to greenery development under Neeru-Chettu programme. He claimed that Anantapur would switch into prosperous district by overcoming drought situation.
Asserting on the need for balancing, Mr Naidu said that the TD government is giving top priority to green revolution. Hence, he said he was implementing Neeru-Chettu for future generations. He said that the government installed 1,600 rain gauges to monitor rainfall and 1,600 piezometers to monitor groundwater levels.
He opined that public participation is a must to fight against drought and tree plantations is a good method to eradicate drought. He welcomed green Amaravati movement and asked the public to plant 10 saplings each to complete the target of 50 crore trees to turn AP into a green state.
Mr Naidu praised capital region farmers for pooling 33,000 acres for the new capital Amaravati and announced that the government will introduce water taxis in Krishna river and would initiate action for the availability of groundwater from 6-7 meters switching Amaravati into a model capital city. He said that rains will start in June. So, the government will start tree plantation from July in AP every year
