Heat wave: Andhra Pradesh told to go Telangana way
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has directed the AP government to take measures to prevent heat wave deaths in the summer on the lines of Telangana State government. The TS government has informed the Court that it has issued order directing all the district collectors to take preparatory measures to mitigate sunstrokes during summer.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice S Ravi Kumar was dealing with a PIL by P. Srisailam of Ranga Reddy district challenging inaction of the AP and TS governments in taking appropriate measures with regard to protecting the lives of the people due to heat wave conditions in both the states.
A. Sanjeev Kumar, special counsel for the TS government told the bench that in view of the deaths due to heat waves that had occu-rred during Summer 2015 in TS in spite of several measures taken by the government, it was proposed to prepare a comprehensive plan on the lines of Heat wave Action Plans of other states such as Gujarat and Odisha to avoid sunstroke fatalities in the future.
He said that the government has issued orders to the district collectors for providing shelters, drinking water, ORS sachets in public places and to provide free emergency health services for the people affected with heat waves. Expressing satisfaction at the steps being taken by the TS government, the bench then asked the AP government also to take similar measures to prevent heat wave deaths.
