Fervour marks Karthika Deepostavam in Anantapur
Tirupati/Anantapur: The auspicious Karthika Deepotsavam was celebrated with pomp and religious fervour at all the Shiva temples in the district. Women in large numbers thronged the temples and lit lamps amidst chanting of ‘Om Namasivaya.’ The women used lemon cups filled with ghee to light the lamps which they considered to be auspicious.
A large number of women thronged the Kapil-atheertham on the occasion. The priests performed Chandi Homam in the temple premises. Many women performed Ganga puja in the temple tank as the tank was brimmed with water due to the recent rains.
The temple premises reverberated with Shiva Namas as the devotees started visiting temple by 3 am itself. The officials made elaborate arrangements for the convenient of devotees.
In the evening, the temple priests lit Kartheeka lamp top of the hillock over the temple which was considered to be auspicious by the citizens of Tirupati.
At Vayulingeswara sw-amy temple in Srikalah-asti, Jwala Thoranam was performed in conne-ction with the Karthika Pournami.
This very au-spicious special ritual performed in Thiruvan-amalai and Srikalahasti only on Karthika Pourn-ami. Temple chief priest Babu Gurukul lit all the lamps in the temple ceremoniously and the the lamps were taken to Bra-hmarambika temple in a procession. Later, the priests burnt to ashes Pamyra tree wi-th the temple lamps.
In Rayalaseema devotees throng Shiva temples from early morning to perform Karthika Dee-potsavam held at Srisa-ilam, Mantralayam, Ma-hanandi and other temples in the region. Jwalathoranam was held at Srisailam Sri Ma-llkarjuna Swamy and Godess Bramarambhika temple offering harathi to river Krishna.
