Cabs clog Masab Tank road

There is no check on inter-state buses plying on the expressway

Hyderabad: Private cabs hunting for passengers at the beginning of the PVNR Expressway are creating traffic jams which stretch beyond Sarojini Naidu Hospital on the busy Masab Tank road. There are no traffic cops along the expressway except when surprise checks are conducted. There is no check on inter-state buses plying on the expressway.

Ms Suraj Singh, a resident of Mehdipatnam said, “During evening hours cabs halt at the entrance of PVNR Expressway for passengers. The width of the expressway is around 30 meters and cabs occupy half of that. Vehicles going towards Shamshabad are forced to halt or squeeze through.”

The section of the PVNR Expressway up to Laxmi Nagar towards Attapur crossing and Musi bridge comes under Hyderabad police jurisdiction. The areas beyond that come under Cyberabad police.

Mr A.V. Raganathan, DCP, south zone, Hyderabad traffic police explained, “We have been receiving complaints of cabbies halting here. A constable will be posted at the entrance. Cabs found waiting on the expressway will be fined. Earlier vehicles used to be seized. A signboard warning against stopping will be put up and a constable will be posted here. The problem is that cab drivers don't mind the fine. But we will stop them.”

Mr P. Srinivas, traffic Inspector Rajendran Nagar said, “We have booked cases against inter -state buses. They are fined '2,500. However, now very few buses violate rules here.”

Hyderabad and Cyberabad traffic police have prohibited the entry of two and three-wheelers, buses, all goods carrying vehicles and slow moving vehicles (particularly tractors), autorickshaws, animal pulled carts and cyclists on PVNR Expressway. Pedestrians also are banned. Only four-wheelers, APSRTC pushpak buses, GMR buses and government run buses are allowed. They are allowed a speed of between 100 and 140 km per hour.
