Ananthavaram (Guntur): Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has demanded that all promises made during the bifurcation of the state be adhered to. Addressing a public meeting at Ananthavaram to mark Karthika Vana Mahotsavam on Wednesday, he said the Centre Centre should contribute to AP's uplift and development along with other states by sanctioning huge funds.
Referring to the financial difficulties in setting up the new capital Amaravati, he said that things were changing. He said Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during his Singapore visit had suggested to the island nation’s government to cooperate with the AP government to set up of a world class capital.
The CM said that the punishment for cutting a tree was higher than for murder in Singapore so as to protect the environment, and stre-ssed the need to promote planting of trees in Amaravati. He expressed concern over the decreasing greenery and asserted the need of increasing greenery to at least 50 to 60 per cent for a good environment. He added that there is only 23 per cent greenery in AP which is something to worry about. Greenery should be increased in cooperation with DWCRA groups.
Talking about starting nurseries in all government high schools, he said that maintenance, promotion and marketing would be given to DWCRA groups. He said that saplings to industries, offices, houses, educational institutes and to the public would be supplied by DWCRA groups through the high school nurseries. He added that nurseries would be started primarily in 1,500 government high schools. He announced handing over maintenance of toilets in government schools to DWCRA groups.
