Not many actors would choose to play the role of a mother to actors close to their age, but Tessa Joseph had no such qualms. In Rajamma @ Yahoo, she acts as the mother of Kunchacko Boban and Asif Ali.
When Lal Jose approached her with the role, Tessa did not think twice before accepting her guru’s offer though he had asked her to make a final decision only if she liked the role.
Says Tessa, “It is not the length of the role but about how happy I would be after playing such a different role that mattered to me.”
Tessa, who knows Kunchacko, Asif and Saiju Kurup since long, felt like she was catching up with her old friends.
But the fact that she is settled in Abu Dhabi seems to affect her career prospects. Tessa says, “A problem I face is that since I am based in Abu Dhabi and have to fly down for my work, people think I am not always at hand as compared to other actors based in Kerala. But frankly speaking, the travel time is actually not an issue because I reached Kerala in three-and-a-half hours for my shoot whereas it took me five hours to reach Calicut from Kochi and I was laughing to myself. There is this preconceived notion that I am far away so won’t be available for work, but actually I am not!”
Talking about offers, Tessa says, “I have a project which should kick off next year. I am not accepting every offer that comes my way but only those I find suitable.”
