Ranji Trophy: Vihari whips troubled Tripura
Hyderabad: Hyderabad captain G.H. Vihari picked up from where he left off as the hosts handed the visiting Tripura side a high mountain to climb on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Group ‘C’ match being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here on Tuesday.
Vihari, who resumed on 94, went on to score a brilliant 219 as the home side declared on 548 for 5. In reply, Tripura were trembling at 13 for 1 in five overs when stumps were drawn.
Hyderabad (overnight 263 for 2) suffered an early setback when B. Anirudh was sent back after he added just three runs to his overnight score of 75. Southpaw B. Sandeep joined his captain at the crease and picked up from where his predecessor had left off. By the time Sandeep was dismissed, castled by Tushar Saha, he had added 213 runs with Vihari — a partnership to which which he had contributed 93.
Vihari was sent back 12 runs later for a well-compiled 219, but by then, the wind was knocked out of Tripura’s sails. Vihari, who scored at a greater tempo than the previous day, smashed 22 fours and two sixes during his 447-ball vigil at the crease.
Just how demoralised Tripura were became very evident when they came out to bat. The visitors lost their first wicket — Virag Awate caught by K. Sumanth off C.V. Milind — with just three runs on the board.
