Telugu Desam MPs to corner Centre
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the state government is ready to handover the responsibility of Polavaram works to the Centre, if it comes forward.
Participating in a review meeting with party MPs in view of the forthcoming Parliament session, Mr Naidu suggested the MPs to raise their voice on state issues and also mount pressure on the Centre. The CM said that if there is a possibility for early completion of Polavaram works with the Union government, AP is ready to handover the project to the Centre.
He stressed the need to complete the project by 2019 whoever handles the works. He said that Centre should release ' 2,051.78 crore under the project for 2015-2016. Besides, nearly Rs 30,000 crore is required for rehabilitation works, he added.
Mr Naidu directed the MPs to mount pressure on the Centre to get approvals for 68 important pending issues. He also asked the party MPs to raise the issue of balancing funds of '273.53 crore which was already spent by the state for Polavaram.
Mr Naidu requested the Centre to withdraw all forest and environment restrictions completely for the Polavaram project. The MPs were also told to discuss with the Centre red sanders auction permission. Nearly 3,308 tonnes of red sanders is stocked in AP he said and asked the MPs to take steps to get approval for petroleum and Girijana universities which were already announced by the Union.
The CM also requested the Centre to extend cooperation for Vadarevu, Bhavanapadu, Nakapalli, Duggarajapatnam, Narasapuram, Rama-yampet ports. The MPs should also concentrate to get all required appr-ovals for outer ring road around Vijaywaad, Tenali, Mangalagiri and Guntur. But the railway zone would be allotted after cabinet approval only.
Referring to the Centre's allocation of '50 crore for Tamil Nadu, Mr Naidu suggested the MPs to ask for '1,000 crore as financial assistance advance for rain-affected areas in the state. He also asked the MPs to stress on the Union government for Bayyaram and Kadapa steel factories and remunerative price for paddy.
The Centre should bear the fiscal deficit and allot funds for the drought hit areas, he said and directed the MPs to take up the matter on top priority. He also suggested the MPs to interact with people more effectively.
Union ministers Ashok Gajapathiraju, Y. Sujana Chowdary, AP BJP president, K. Hari Babu, MPs, Malla Reddy, K Ram-mohana Rao, Garikapati Mohana Rao, JC Diwakar Reddy and Finance minister ,Y. Ramakrishnudu were present.
