Madras High Court: AG must file government’s submission

Advocate General and other senior government pleaders appeared to defend the official and his subordinates
Chennai: The Madras high court on Tuesday directed the Advocate-General (AG) to file a written submission of the state government in connection with a case against a senior IAS officer who alleged that high court judges were corrupt.
The Bench comprising Justices Sathish K Agnihotri and P. Devadass directed the AG, A. L. Somayaji, to be with the judiciary and assist it in the case which the
Bench felt was a disgrace to the judiciary.
The judges were hearing a writ petition in which an advocate S. Doraisamy submitted an audio tape that alleged that lawyers and judges were corrupt. Justice Agnihotri asked the government pleader “Tell me whether it is a misconduct or not. Have you heard the tape? We don’t want to be over sensitive and we will give time for the officer to respond. An officer in
the rank of state secretary has spoken and this has appeared in newspapers.” Wondering what was wrong with the officer, the Bench wanted to know from the State on what action can be taken in the case.
The Advocate General and other senior government pleaders appeared to defend the official and his subordinates. Lawyers argued that extensive damage had been done to the judiciary. They demanded criminal proceedings against the officer.
The bench posted the case for further hearing on January 5.
