Lal Bahadur Shastri Engineering College students to move Kerala High Court

2013 ban on campus politics to be challenged

KASARGOD: The students of Lal Bahadur Shastri Engineering College in Kasargod have decided to challenge the Kerala High Court order banning campus politics.

The order was issued in 2013 following a petition filed by three parents with the support of Principal Dr K.A. Nawas citing frequent political clashes between student unions.

The principal had banned elections during 2011. The students alleged that he had forced the parents to file the petition.

“LBS has a rich political background and the SFI had a strong hold on the institution for years”, said Labeeb Mohammed, third- year BTech student and an activist. The SFI district committee has decided to file a review petition to stay the HC verdict, he added.

The LBS was set up in 1993 under the LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Thiruvanthapuram. The college under the state government has in the last one decade witnessed many political clashes between the students on various issues.
