Girl students consume liquor in school premises for birthday bash
Plus-1 students to be questioned today
Namakkal: In a shocking incident, a group of girls at government school consumed liquor at government school near Namakkal for celebrating a birthday and an official inquiry was ordered.
The authorities of the Girls Government higher secondary school at Thiruchengode near Namakkal declared a holiday on Nov. 16 after cancelling the examination for plus-1 students. Meanwhile, the students were instructed to take up the exam on Nov. 21.
As per the instruction, students were waiting at the school from early morning. In the meantime, a group of seven girls planned to celebrate the birthday of their classmate before the start of the exam. They cut a cake and also celebrated by consuming liquor mixing it in soft drinks. The news of the consuming of liquor spread among the students as some who imbibed the spirits vomited. However, they attended the examination and went home.
Following a tip-off, the head mistress Krishnaveni conducted an inquiry and ordered all the seven students to come with their parents the next day. Four of them returned to school with their parents and they were issued transfer certificates expelling them from the school.
On hearing of if, the Chief Educational Officer (CEO) Gobidoss conducted inquiry at the school and the District Collector V. Thatchinamoorthy questioned the HM and six other teachers at the district collectorate on Tuesday.
CEO Gobidoss, said, “We came to know that the girls consumed liquor by mixing it in cool drinks in the school premises. We ordered all the seven students to come for inquiry at school on Wednesday. The report would be given to the district collector and further action would be taken based on the report.”
