GHMC gets proactive on people’s woes

GHMC staff are visiting colonies daily to address sanitation issues

Hyderabad: Residents are quite surprised these days as GHMC staff are conducting daily inspections in their jurisdictions and approaching residents if any civic works are pending.

Works like tackling dog menace, streetlights, community bins, tree cutting, stormwater drains etc. are being attended to and funds are being promptly sanctioned. With the GHMC polls coming up, GHMC engineers, who are usually not found in their offices, are now meeting residents asking about their civic woes. Meanwhile, the distribution of the twin bins will also start from this week.

DLR Residents Welfare Association (Sainikpuri) members recalled that they had been facing a drainage issue since 2011 wherein the GHMC staff just needed to cover an open drain. “This uncovered and flowing drain had been troubling us since 2011. Repeated complaints to the circle officer and the deputy commissioner at Kapra had gone in vain. However, a few days ago, when we reminded the officer about the complaint, they quickly responded and sent the quotation to the head office for approval. Now the internal lanes are being swept every day and the sweepers are taking signatures of the residents too,” said the members.

The GHMC staff are visiting colonies daily to address sanitation issues and also sharing the contact number of the concern officer. On Tuesday, an inspection was carried out at the Methodist Colony wherein Assistant Medical Officer of Health and sanitary supervisors explained to the residents about the two-bin system and auto tipper collection mechanism, which will be introduced soon.

The staff also shared their contact numbers and painted them on the walls. GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy, meanwhile, has directed all contractors to speed up ongoing works and complete them on priority basis.
