Firm block to Andhra Pradesh Secretariat shift

AP Industrial and Infrastructure Corporation is the developer of the Gannavaram SEZ

Hyderabad: Shifting of AP’s Secretariat to Medha Towers at Gannavaram in Vijayawada has run into a wall as the companies located in the towers are opposing the de-notification of Gannavaram Special Economic Zone.

The AP government had decided to shift some part of the Secretariat to Medha Towers and wanted to make Medha Towers a part of AP’s Secretariat. The official committee also recommended that Medha Towers is suitable for the Secretariat.

Before locating the Secretariat to Medha Towers, the government has to de-notify the Gannavaram SEZ. According to rules all the developers of the SEZ should pass a resolution to de-notify the SEZ. Later the developers of the SEZ have to send the proposal of de-notification of SEZ to the state government along with the resolution. The state government after accepting the proposal will send it to the Centre for its approval. Gannavaram SEZ is located at Kesarapalli village of Gannavaram mandal in Krishna district on about 30 acres. AP Industrial and Infrastructure Corporation is the developer of the Gannavaram SEZ and L&T Infocity was selected as a co-developer.

In this SEZ, APIIC has 24 per cent and L&T 74 per cent equity and the total project cost is Rs 450 crore. At present four companies are located in Medha Towers which are part of Gannavaram SEZ.

But the companies located in the Towers are opposing the proposal of de-notifying the Gannavaram SEZ. If it is de- notified, the state has to pay the total expenditure to the companies and has to give alternative place also to locate these companies.
