20 advocates barred from practice in Tamil Nadu

Bar Council initiates disciplinary proceedings
Chennai: The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has initiated disciplinary proceedings against 20 advocates in three different cases and barred them from pursuing the profession for their alleged unruly behaviour.
The council had passed a resolution prohibiting the advocates from practicing in any court and tribunal either in their names or in any assumed name till the disposal of the suo motu complaint initiated against them.
In a press release, D. Selvam, council chairman, said on September 14 the advocates had staged an agitation in the court hall demanding introduction of Tamil as court language.
They have squatted in the First court headed by Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul to highlight their demand. As a result, disciplinary action had been initiated against K.G. Bhagat Singh, V. Murugan, M. Ayyappan, S. Senthamizh Selvan, C. Ezhilarasu, Bharathi, Porkodi, M. Selvakumar of Madurai V. Thisai Indiran of Ramanathapuram and P. Sivachandran of Nagapattinam for their unruly behavior and total professional misconduct committed by them. Even after receiving the show cause notice, they had not submitted a proper reply.
The council also initiated proceedings against S. Jimraj Milton, S. Parthasarathi, S. Mahendran, S. Mahaveer Shivaji, D. Vincent Prabakar, P. Umasankar and K. Kesavan for their unruly behavior and raising slogans against the judiciary onSeptember 16 in the high court. They also attempted to barge into the court hall no 4, when suo motu contempt proceedings initiated against two Madurai advocates was progressing.
The council also initiated proceedings against advocates E. Murugan, D. Vijay and C.Vijay for their act of consuming liquor in the high court premises. Selvam said in order to prevent such unwanted incidents in future in the court premises, it is the duty of the Bar council to take a firm and severe action against the erring advocates, pending disciplinary proceedings being contemplated against them.
