Theft at Kuvempu house, Padma awards stolen

Six CCTV cams, office material destroyed

KUPPALI: A theft occurred in the historic house of Rashtrakavi K.V.Puttappa (Kuvempu) at Kuppali in Tirthahalli taluk of Shivamogga district around 9 pm on Monday.

According to the police, unidentified persons broke into the house from the rear door using a ladder and ran away with the Padma award medals and also the Mysore University doctorate medal besides ransacking the house. The culprits also damaged the Karnataka Ratna award shield and the award shield of ‘Shatamanada Vyakti’ conferred by Mangaluru Lions Club, they said.

The police said the culprits have also smashed six CC cameras, a telephone set and office material and Rs 1,000 cash in the book stall counter has been stolen.

Superintendent of Police P Ravi D.Channannavar told the media that the incident happened when the duty watchman had left the place to have dinner. The incident has taken place before the alternate watchman took his charge, the SP suspected.

Meanwhile a CCTV image of a person in action inside Kuvempu’s house has been released by the SP in the evening. The Kuvempu Pratishtana has registered a complaint in this regard.
