Director offers compensation to distributors who didn’t recover even 20 per cent of investment
Akhil Akkineni’s debut film Akhil turned out to be a disaster and has had an big impact on distributors’ and producer’s revenues. But the film’s flop has also turned director V.V. Vinayak into a saviour.
For the first time in recent Tollywood history, a director himself has offered compensation to distributors as “damage control”. Vinayak called a few distributors saying he will help out with the losses.
Kranthi Pictures of Visakhapatnam and a distributor in the Krishna district will be the ones receiving compensation. “He called up those distributors because they have been associated with his films from the very beginning of his career. The loss from Akhil has been heavy for the Vizag distributor so, Vinayak is offering compensation worth nearly a crore,” reveals a source.
The source added that the director is “adjusting” this amount from his salary that he had taken for the film and was also compensating the producer with Rs 3 crore. There are also rumours Akhil is returning some of the money received from the movie.
