I don’t want to be typecast: Raj Bharath

He considers two things, which Mysskin advised him as crucial, and follows them
He started his career as a baddie with the film 555 in Sasi’s direction but his menacing villainous act as the handicapped Thamba in Mysskin’s Onaayum Aatukuttyum, was what brought Raj Bharath into the limelight. Despite being the son of veteran writer-filmmaker and producer Malliam Rajagopal, Bharath was studious and completed his graduation in engineering. It was but natural that one day the acting bug bit him, and leaving his cushy IT job, Bharath plunged into tinsel town. “Because of my dad’s connection many top filmmakers like Mani Ratnam sir, Bharathiraja sir encouraged and blessed me when I came in. Even as I was doing 555, I got a call from Mysskin sir for Onaayum… I knew that even a minuscule character in Mysskin sir’s film would be noticed and I just jumped at the offer of the role with highly negative shades. It paid off! I got recognition for my work in OA,” the young actor says.
He considers two things, which Mysskin advised him as crucial, and follows them. “It was a big learning curve while working with Mysskin sir. He always says that an actor should convey all the expressions through his eyes and secondly, he/she should act once again while dubbing to get the correct feel.” All the same, he is careful not to be typecast. As luck would have it, rejecting similar villainous roles that followed OA, Raj Bharath has completed a film Natpadhikaram where he plays the lead protagonist. “Director Ravichandran has given me a fabulous role, one that is really challenging. I worked in all the department of Natpadhikaram as an assistant to Ravi sir right from the scripting stage, which gave me a lot of exposure,” he says. Two more films, Sigai with Kathir and Andhra Mess where he essays one of the leads, is in the pipeline. “Irrespective of the various roles I play, I want to be identified as a good performer,” he signs off.
