Ranji Trophy: Skipper Vihari, Anirudh put Hyderabad on top
Vihari was the anchor while Anirudh was the aggressor for the hosts
Hyderabad: G.H. Vihari played a captain’s knock as Hyderabad gave a good account of themselves with the bat on the opening day of their Group ‘C’ Ranji Trophy match against Tripura at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in the city on Monday.
Put in to bat, the hosts rode on half-centuries from Vihari (94 batting) and B. Anirudh (75 batting) to end the day on a comfortable 263 for two off 90 overs. Hyderabad made a good start to their innings with openers Tanmay Agarwal (45) and Akshath Reddy (40) seeing off the new ball.
The opening-pair put on 70 runs before Akshath was caught by wicketkeeper Nirupam Sen Chowdhary off M.B. Murasingh. Tanmay and Vihari then added 42 runs in 19.5 overs before the former was sent back in similar fashion, this time off the bowling of Tushar Saha.
Vihari, who was solid as a rock, and Anirudh gave Tripura’s attack no further joy as they went about their jobs in a calm manner, stitching an unbroken 152-run partnership for the third wicket.
Vihari was the anchor while Anirudh was the aggressor for the hosts. The young Hyderabad captain consumed 202 runs for his unbeaten 94, with only six boundaries. He will look to cross the 100-run mark at the earliest when he takes the crease again on the morning of the second day.
In contrast, Anirudh played aggressively for his 75 not out, sending the ball to the fence eight times, and twice over it, during the course of his 127-ball knock. On the other hand, Tripura will hope for a quick change in fortunes when the second day’s play commences on Tuesday.
