TRS to press for delimiting seats
Hyderabad: The TRS Parliamentary Party which met here on Monday has decided to raise the issue of delimitation of Assembly seats in Telangana as provided in the AP Reorganisation Act, in the upcoming Parliament session.
Party MPs met at Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s camp office and finalised the issues to be raised in the session. The bifurcation Act provided fre-sh delimitation of Assembly segments in both TS and AP to raise the strength from 119 to 153 seats in the TS Assembly and from 175 to 225 seats in the AP House.
The provision comes with a rider that it is subject to Article 170 of the Constitution, which deals with delimitation of Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies. An amendment was passed capping fresh delimitation till 2026.
TRS MPs said the NDA has already passed two amendments to the bifurcation Act and another amendment may be brought to allow fresh delimitation of Assembly segments in both TS and AP in a manner that do not clash with the provisions of Article 170.
Since AP also wants to increase its Asse-mbly strength, the Centre should consider bringing the amendment now, Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar said.
The Chief Minister during his interaction with party MPs told them to raise the issues concerning the state both within and outside Parliament and ensure that the Centre sanctions both funds and projects.
“We (TRS) will cooperate with the Centre if they extend their cooperation to redress pending issues. If the Centre is not in a mood and is trying to hoodwink TRS, we will not hesitate to confront the Centre,” Bhongir MP Dr Bura Narasaiah Goud said.
