EVKS Elangovan baiter stripped of traders wing post

Vasanthakumar to remain as one of state vice-presidents
Chennai: Just when it seemed peace was restored in Satyamurthy Bhavan, state Congress president E.V.K.S. Elangovan whipped up a storm in TNCC on Monday by stripping former MLA and entrepreneur Vasanthakumar of party state traders cell convener post.
Vasanthakumar was among the leaders who had petitioned against Elangovan in New Delhi recently. In a statement, Elangovan said that former MLA has been relieved of the traders wing post but he would continue as one of the party state vice presidents.
As much as the announcement the fact that no reason was cited by Elangovan for the sacking has intrigued many a Congressmen. Sources close to Vasanthakumar, who saw no more than political vendetta in the announcement, said that Elangovan’s announcement was not binding as the appointment was made by AICC.
However, state Congress spokesperson Gopanna clarified that the traders cell was not an AICC-authorized frontal organisation and it is purely a local arrangement.
The announcement should hurt Vasanthakumar considering that the established entrepreneur considers the post more as a matter of pride than the little power it wields among the trader dominant Nadar community he hails
from.
Incidentally, the sacking announcement comes a day after EVKS appointed observers for the 16 constituencies in Chennai, most of whom, rival Chidambaram camp alleges, are his supporters.
“He has appointed circle presidents as constituency in-charge. Every constituency has two circles. How will they work in tandem if one is appointed observer,” a close Chidambaram associate argued.
Also, it’s an established practice to not appoint people within a constituency as observer in the same segment. But EVKS has overlooked that and appointed members residing within the same constituency as observers there, that too without consulting district presidents” the associate alleged, sarcastically adding that normally quarrel erupts after polls in Congress, this time it has been advanced.
Meanwhile, sources told Deccan Chronicle that former TNCC chief K. V. Thangkabaluu who led the “sack EVKS” campaign recently and muted his voice of dissent following high command’s intervention, has planned to leave to the national capital on Tuesday with another petition against Elangovan.
