Mufti Sayeed's ancestral house attacked by protesters, Pakistan flag put up on window
Srinagar: Surging crowds while mourning the killing of three Islamic militants in a gun fight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district a day ago attacked the ancestral house of Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, in the highway town of Bijbehara with rocks on Tuesday.
They also put up Pakistan’s national flag on a first floor window of the house, witnesses said. The incident has left the State government authorities red-faced.
Kashmir Valley is partially shut today (Tuesday) to mourn the killing of the militants in a gunfight with a joint party of Army, local police’s counterinsurgency Special Operations Group (SOG) and CRPF in Silgam village outside the township of Aishmuqam on Monday.
Shops and other business and educational institutions in many parts of the Valley are closed and transport services have been disrupted in response to a call issued by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
As all the slain militants of indigenous outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were local residents of Bijbehara of Anantnag, massive protests are underway in the area. Reports said that irate youth attacked the ancestral house of the Chief Minister in Baba Mohalla of the highway town of Bijbehara with stones and then put up Pakistan’s national flag on a window of the first floor of the house built of timber and exposed bricks.
Also, thousands of mourners turned up at the funeral of the Hizb militants Sartaj Ahmed Lone, Adil Ahmed Sheikh and Tanveer Ahmed Butt. They were chanting pro ‘azadi’ and anti India slogans, reports said adding a complete shutdown is being observed in Bijbehara, Anantnag and neighbouring towns.
