Mahatma Gandhi University to shuffle invigilators’ colleges

Move to curb malpractices in examinations

KOTTAYAM: The MG University Syndicate is planning to shuffle invigilators from arts and science colleges to prevent malpractices. The varsity had done it for B.Tech exams at 46 affiliated engineering colleges, and the results were satisfactory.

Authorities say it would bring more transparency in conducting exams, in the wake of increasing malpractices. The last syndicate meeting had formed a committee to study its feasibility.

“The shuffling will be implemented by March 2016,” Dr N. Jayakumar, convenor of the exam committee, told Deccan Chronicle. “We considered this after cheating in exams increased alarmingly over the years.”

The invigilators will be transferred only to nearby colleges to avoid inconvenience for them. “The success of the practice with the engineering colleges also influenced the decision,” said vice-chancellor Dr Babu Sebastian.
