Karnataka High Court orders release of seized pulses
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Monday ordered the release of pulses that were seized by the deputy commissioners during raids across the state recently. The authorities had raided places where tur dal and pulses were stored above 500 quintals without valid licenses.
The court had earlier issued emergent notices to the department of food and civil supplies, consumer affairs and legal metrology, food director and the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Asha Trading Company, Mangaluru and others, questioning the validity of deputy commissioner’s action in seizing pulses stored above 500 quintals. The court, ordering the release of seized pulses back to the merchants, further directed the district authorities to dispose of the case against the merchants immediately.
The court made it clear to the merchants that they should carry out their business as per the conditions prescribed by the state government. The court also stated that the district authorities and departments concerned are at liberty to take action as per law if the merchants are found guilt.
