In flood-hit areas, Jagan Mohan Reddy targets state’s ‘apathy’
Anantapur: YSR Congress president and Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on continued his tirade against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his Cabinet, accusing them of failing to come to the aid of rain-hit people.
Mr Reddy was speaking to the media on Monday evening, after undertaking an inspection tour of the rain-affected areas at Railway Koduru in Kadapa district.
“Even though the rains have been creating havoc during the last 27 days, the government had not reached out to the affected areas and people,” he said.
The YSRC president demanded that the government immediately release 25 kg rice and cash to each affected family as temporary relief.
Objecting to Telugu Desam leaders shouting at officials, Mr Reddy said that surveying the affected areas does not mean being rude. “If the officials are provided with minimum resources and asked to work, then they will do their job,” Mr Reddy said.
The YSRC chief said that the government can shout at officials if it had provided the affected areas with adequate quantity of rice, ration and money, but not yell at them when people complain that the government was not taking care of them. Mr Reddy advised the government to make an effort and find out how many of the affected actually received any help.
“People are unable to go to work so the government should provide them with Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 in cash, 25 kg rice, a kg each of pulses and sugar,” he said.
