Ending superstition: Minister Satish Jarkiholi plans mega event in graveyard

The Sadashivanagar graveyard in Belagavi will witness a mega event on December 6

Belagavi: The Sadashivanagar graveyard in Belagavi will witness a mega event on December 6 with many noted writers, thinkers and historians from different parts of the country set to attend the programme to create awareness among people against superstition.

Minister Satish Jarkiholi is holding the event to mark the death anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar with a large number of people from all 30 districts of Karnataka likely to take part. According to Mr Jarkiholi, an awareness rally from every district will be taken out starting from November 26 which will culminate at Sadashivanagar graveyard on December 5 night. People from many NGOs and other organisations in all the districts have decided to take part in the anti-superstition rally, said Mr Jarkiholi.

“Participants in the programme will not only attend seminars, workshops and lectures to be held round-the-clock on December 6 but will also have their meals and sleep at the graveyard. The objective of the event is to fight against rising blind beliefs and practices which are hampering the growth of a healthy society,” says Jarkiholi.

A team of progressive writers and thinkers will attempt to give a new direction to society through their lectures against superstition, said Jarkiholi stating that the attempts being made to perpetrate atrocities on people by way of superstition should have to be stopped by launching effective campaigns on a regular basis. He said he would be holding similar programmes on December 6 every year by inviting celebrated litterateurs and progressive thinkers from different parts of the country to the graveyard.

Last year, the same event had attracted a huge crowd at the same venue. Noted personalities attended the graveyard event including Swamy Agnivesh from Bhanduwa Mukti Morcha, New Delhi, Dr Siddalinga Mahaswamy from Gadag, Panditaradhya Shivacharya from Sanehalli, Veeramani Petiyar from Chennai, Shrimant Kokate from Pune, Praveendada Gaikwad from Maharashtra, Dr H.S. Anupama from Karwar, Nijagunanand Swamy from Belur, Dr C.S. Dwarkanath from Bengaluru.
