Cops start criminals’ survey in Hyderabad

Will verify the details of old offenders arrested during 2009 to Oct. 2015

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police on Monday started the Integrated Criminal Survey to verify the details of offenders arrested between 2009 and October 2015. The details of 24,772 offenders arrested during the period will be verified during the survey till Sunday.

The Samagra Nerasthula Survey will cover 9,192 criminals residing Cyberabad in the first phase and suspect sheets will be opened against them. Of the 24,772 criminals arrested during the period, 960 were chain snatchers and 90 were located in Cyberabad.

Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand said the data collected during the survey would help the police track criminals and keep a vigil on them. Most of them were not staying at the address provided during their arrest, and it had become difficult for the police to track them down when needed.

“After release from jail, they shift to new addresses. A few of them get involved in some offences. The survey will help us track them easily, which will keep them from committing offences,” Mr Anand said.

The sector sub-inspectors, beat constables and Blue Colts teams would get clear knowledge of the criminals residing in their area during the survey. The police also has a post-survey action plan in place.

“After compiling the data, we will conduct surprise visits to the criminals. It will show if the survey has been done properly or not. Action will be taken any officer found negligent in this process,” Mr Anand said.

As a part of the survey, criminals are being asked to give their name, family details, data on occupation, contact information, details of close relatives, friends and associates and fellow criminals who took part in the offence along with them.

Anand down to paperwork

Leading by example, Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand on Monday met old offenders and collected details of a person in Premnagar area of Hafeezpet for the Samagra Nerasthula Survey (integrated criminal survey).

The commissioner himself filled the survey form of Mr Srinivas, who had been arrested in 2010 in a scrap selling case. Mr Srinivas, a native of Warangal, had been arrested twice in 2005 for selling illegally stored scrap. After being released from prison, he has been working as a water tanker driver.

The commissioner explained purpose of the survey to him and noted down the information in the questionnaire.

“It is very difficult to collect all the information, but it would be of great help to us. It also helped me to understand the situation of an officer doing the survey,” said the commissioner.

After completing the process, Mr Anand directed officers to take the survey seriously and get all the details of the criminals.
“In places where there are a large number of criminals, we will support them with additional force,” he added.

Most criminals held on outskirts
