600 Maoists in Visakhapatnam, say cops
Visakhapatnam: The increased anti-bauxite mining agitations in Vizag Agency of AP has brought back the Maoists to the centrestage. Vizag Rural cops observed that infiltration of Maoists into Andhra- Odisha Border (AOB) and Vizag Agency increased from Chhattisgarh.
While the infiltration into Telangana state was for strategic reasons and to expand the base, the entry into Andhra- Odisha Border was for boosting the ultras in the region to fight against the mining.
Vizag Rural police chief Koya Praveen stated that a battalion of Maoists entered AOB and Vizag Agency and they have reports that armed Maoists comprising 500 to 600 activists, belonging to Kondh tribe from Chhattisgarh, have entered Vizag Agency since January this year.
