Suspected rebels gun down naib sarapanch in Odisha

This is the seventh killing by the Maoists in Odisha since September 20 this year

Bhubaneswar: Suspected Maoists on Monday night killed a naib sarpanch in Odisha’s Bolangir district suspecting him to be a police informer.

The naib sarpanch of Bagdor panchayat at Belapada in the district was gunned down by the rebels last night.

The deceased identified as Alekh Majhi was shot dead by a group of rebels at around 10 pm on Monday, reports said.

“A person identified as Alekh Majhi has reportedly been gunned down by Maoists. They have left some posters besides the body. A group of around 10 ultras were involved in the incident. The rebels have killed him on the outskirts of Belapada village and his body was found near a forest. Police personnel have rushed to the spot for investigation,” Bolangir superintendent of police (SP) Deepak Kumar said.

It may be recalled that a group of about 20 armed ultras stormed into Madakapadar village in Malkangiri district in September this year and took away Damu Sisa from his house and shot him dead suspecting him to be a police informer. While his mother is a sarpanch, his father was a former sarpanch.

This is the seventh killing by the Maoists in Odisha since September 20 this year.
