A smartphone for kids just for Rs 6,000

Looks like a toy phone, but comes loaded with kid-friendly features

Parents are often in a dilemma while giving smartphones to their children. Even though it’s about ensuring safety and connectivity to kids, there’s also a worry of misuse with unlimited access to web, apps and other tools. Keeping these concerns in mind, Swipe Technologies has launched a smartphone with a slate of parental control features.

The Swipe Junior has two modes, a normal Android mode with free access to all Android apps, and a KidsOS mode with a parental control system that lets you limit access to apps, web pages, and phone contacts by setting a password. There’s also a time limit feature, which allows you to limit access to a particular app.

The phone lets you track and limit your child’s movements through its geo-positioning feature. Just download their Geo-Locator app and set boundaries by defining the Geo-Fence area. You can set safe and danger zones and monitor your kids via GPS. It also comes with an SOS icon on home screen, so that your kids can immediately contact you during any emergency.

Other technical functions of this smartphone are just enough to excite your kid: a 4.5-inch IPS screen; Android KitKat with 1.3 GHz dual-core processor, and 512MB RAM. It comes with a 3G SIM slot, a 2megapixel rear camera and 0.3megapixel front camera. The internal storage is 4GB.

Swipe claims that it has designed the Junior with a shock proof and water proof body, ideal for handling by kids. It comes in two colors, pink and blue.

The Swipe Junior is a perfect first phone for children. You can consider buying it, instead of giving them your expensive smartphone hand-me-down. Priced at Rs 5, 999, it is available on the company’s website and other e-commerce portals.
