Temple not closed, says Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams
The message went viral, leaving devotees confused over its genuineness
Nellore: TTD officials on Sunday denied rumours that the holy shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala was closed following heavy rains.
A message that the temple was being closed had been circulating on social media apps like WhatsApp, with photos of a waterlogged outer wall of the temple and submerged mandapam in Swami Pushkarini (temple tank) at Tirumala since morning. The message went viral, leaving devotees confused over its genuineness.
Expressing surprise over the rumours, TTD PRO Talari Ravi said the temple is never closed, except during an eclipse.
The TTD PRO said that water logging is a common phenomenon in the temple and the rainwater drains away through underground canals within an hour after rains.
“As many as 37,000 devotees had darshan till Sunday evening and 10,000 more have been waiting in eight compartments. They will have darshan tonight. Where is the question of closing the shrine?” he said.
