Parallel policing will be checked: Ramesh Chennithala
Details of the incidents in Kochi that led to the conclusion is under scrutiny
Kochi: Home minister Ramesh Chennithala has confirmed the existence of a parallel policing system in Kochi. Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, he said there was nothing wrong in retired police officials starting their enterprises. But trying to influence policing system using their old contacts cannot be accepted.
Details of the incidents in Kochi that led to the conclusion is under scrutiny. “Appropriate action will be taken (to end the parallel policing),” he said. He refused to comment further as the matter was before the court.
The director general of prosecution had submitted in the Kerala High Court last week that Sunil Jacob, a retired police officer, had been running a parallel police system in Kochi.
DGP T.P. Senkumar also told reporters in Kochi on Sunday about its existence. Mr Senkumar said such unhealthy activities would not be tolerated and stringent action would be taken against those involved in such activities.
